The second season of one of the world’s largest CS:GO leagues, the ESL ESEA Pro League, is underway, with teams from Europe and North America fighting it out for the points that will take them to the season finals. Today we bring in changes to the relegation system, according to which teams will be shuffled the end of each season based on their performance.
How does it work?
ESL ESEA Pro League
Out of the twelve participating teams, the top nine will secure a slot in the Pro League for the next season. The team who places last will be automatically relegated to the ESL ESEA Premier Division, while teams who place in tenth and eleventh place will have to fight to remain in the Pro League with the two top teams from the Premier Division as follows:
-
10th ranked Pro League team relegation match vs. Premier Division second non-moved up place
-
11th ranked Pro League team relegation match vs. Premier Division first non-moved up place
At the end of each season, the League Administration will add a new team to the Pro League which will be either:
-
a wildcard team chosen by the Administration to replace the auto-relegated team or
-
the team which places first in the Premier Division
ESL ESEA Premier Division
As mentioned previously, the first two non-moved up teams in the Premier Division will be able to fight for a slot in the Pro League in the Pro relegation matches. Teams who place in slots three to twelve will remain in the Premier Division, while teams who place thirteenth and below will be relegated to the ESEA Main and ESL Major leagues unless one of them is chosen as the wildcard team.
ESEA Main and ESL Major League
In both leagues, the top two teams will be automatically promoted to the Premier Division. The rest of the teams in the ESEA Main will remain in the league. In the ESL Major League, the teams that take slots three to twenty-four will stay in the league while the ones below will be relegated to the ESL Open League.
