The ESL Southeast Europe Championship (ESL SEC) is the longest running multigame esports competition for the geographical region of Southeast Europe, organized by the ESL. Its purpose is to enable gamers from different countries to compete, increase their skill and receive visibility, while providing high-quality and region-relevant entertainment for the audience.

Over the last 3 and a half years, ESL SEC had seven seasons, packed with breathtaking action, in 4 different countries that brought into play 56.000€ paid prize money. But this season, everything is different. ESL SEC is growing bigger, more competitive, filled with decisiveness to solidify – more than ever – it’s main goal: “Fostering the competitive scene in the region”.

THREE GAMES – THREE CHAMPIONS

ESL SEC Season VIII is offering a unique opportunity to players, regardless of their discipline; to find their way to the top, in all of its games, League of Legends, Counter Strike Global Offensive and Hearthstone. Without further ado, let’s jump into the details!

• COUNTER STRIKE: GLOBAL OFFENSIVE •

A new… champion arises in the CS:GO Arena, following the coronation of Nexus Gaming (ESL SEC VII). This time, eight teams will have the opportunity to take down your reigning Champions, claim the trophy for themselves, alongside a fat share of the staggering 10.000€ prize pool. Not only that, but the grand champion will get a chance to compete at the dazzling 50.000€ championship that will take place at the same venue!

Structure

Six teams will be directly invited to the group stage, while teams from all over the region will also get their chance to compete amongst the cream of the crop! Τhrough a series of two national qualifiers per region, four Romanian, four Bulgarian, two Greek, three Hungarian and three Adriatic teams will have to clash each other in order to secure one of the two last spots. Following the completion of the Group Stage, two teams will advance to the offline final!

• LEAGUE OF LEGENDS •

Riot’s flagship, constitutes a key factor that has ever been absent from Southeast Europe’s competitive scene. Several Greek teams have dominated the scene for the first 5 out of 6 seasons, but following Nexus Gaming (season VI) and WiLD’s by Lagardere Sports (season VII) conquests, their reign has come to an end.

Structure

The top four teams from each National Qualifier - two qualifiers, 8 teams in total - will fight for a spot in the Playoff. Greece and Adria will have two representatives, alongside Romania’s, Bulgaria’s and Hungary’s single contender. All Seven of them will join WiLD, last season’s Champions, thus shaping the Playoffs’s final form! A total of eight teams will battle it out for the title of the region’s top team, while also fight for the lion’s share of the 5.000€ prize pool.
