WE ARE READY FOR 2020!

SWISSCOM HERO LEAGUE IS READY FOR 2020!

After an exciting first year of Swisscom Hero League with plenty of memorable moments, we’re now ready for a new chapter. 2020 brings some exciting changes to our league and to the way we shape the swiss esports environment. Together with our partners SAMSUNG and OMEN by HP, we are progressing towards our vision of building a sustainable and healthy national esports scene. Let’s take a deep breath and deep-dive into the changes.

LANGUAGE

Probably the most unexpected change will be the shift from a bi-lingual production in Swiss-German and French to English. From now on all our broadcasts and social media activities will be held in English. There were many factors that led to this decision but most importantly it was the feedback from the community and the goal to remove the so-called “Röstigraben” between the two largest linguistic cultures in Switzerland, bringing the communities closer together. Nevertheless, the SHL keeps its Swissness by continuing to count on talents from Switzerland and produce the streams from the studio in Bern.

GAMES

We are really happy with the development we experienced in the current 3 featured titles. That’s why we will continue with CS:GO, Clash Royale and League of Legends as part of the Swisscom Hero League ecosystem. There will be some changes to the formats. Today we’re going to talk about all the changes for CS:GO and Clash Royale. An in-depth explanation to League of Legends will happen at the beginning of March.
The finalists from all 3 games will have the chance to compete at the offline finals for a total prize pool of CHF 18'000 at the beginning of May.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS

Since the foundation of the new Prime League dedicated to the GSA/DACH region, fewer licences are issued. But we are happy to announce that we got one! With the new licence, there are some changes coming along, specifically the avoidance of any overlappings with the schedule of the Prime League and the reduction of our League of Legends prize pool to CHF 5'000. At this point, we can already announce that there will be an Open Qualifier on the 4th of April where you'll have the chance to secure a spot for the upcoming League of Legends competition. More information on the new format and schedule will be revealed at the beginning of March.

However, we are working on some totally new tournament formats which will be communicated soon. Hence, if you are into FIFA, there is reason enough to be excited for what’s coming next!

That’s it - we hope you are as much juiced up to crown the next swiss Heroes as we are!
