Will the super team rise in July? Welcome G2 Esports to ESL One Cologne!
Lucky number 7? G2 Esports join the fray at ESL One Cologne 2017.

We are thrilled to announce that the seventh team invited and confirmed for ESL One Cologne 2017 is no other than G2 Esports! G2 will join NiP, Virtus.pro, SK, FaZe, FNATIC and Natus Vincere in the battle for glory, the coveted ESL One trophy and a share of the US$250,000 prize pool.

G2 Esports went through massive roster changes earlier this year, acquiring three players from Team ENVYUS: kennyS, NBK and apEX who replaced RpK, ScreaM and SmithZz (who became the team's coach), making the new lineup as follows:

  • shox
  • bodyy
  • kennyS
  • NBK
  • apEX

The news of the above roster changes took the community by storm and caused a lot of excitement with G2 being branded as Europe's new super team. Having a super team label brings in a lot of expectations which the team has yet to live up to.

We've only seen G2's new lineup in LAN action once so far, at StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 3. The team had a great performance in the Swiss stage, finishing first with a 3-0 record and wins against Ninjas in Pyjamas, HellRaisers and SK Gaming. Their tournament run ended in the quarterfinals where they lost 1-2 to future StarLadder champions, FaZe Clan.

We cannot wait to see what G2 Esports will show us in Cologne. Will they live up to the title of a super team?

See you in Cologne!

We now know seven teams confirmed for the event: G2 Esports, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Natus Vincere, FNATIC, FaZe, Virtus.pro and SK. There are still 5 invites and 4 teams from qualifiers to go! Be sure to be among the roaring crowd that will once again fill LANXESS Arena - get your ticket here!
