The Annual Club Incentive (ACI) is a central pillar of the ESL compensation structure in Counter-Strike. A first of its kind, it is designed to reward clubs for their long-term commitment and contribution to the Counter-Strike ecosystem through tournament attendance, viewership impact, and promotional support.
The ACI is a non-exclusive program available to any team that wishes to participate by signing the ESL CS2 Ecosystem Agreement. Unlike traditional prize money, which is awarded based on individual tournament results, the ACI provides a year-end payout based on a team's aggregate contribution throughout the year.
The contribution for each team is determined using a specific formula to ensure fair representation of both viewership reach and tournament activity.
Tournaments will be weighted differently based on their duration (reflecting the time commitment required from teams) and the anticipated difficulty of travel for teams. This approach aims to encourage teams to participate in events that are more challenging to accommodate within their competitive schedules. Viewership data from Esports Charts will be used for these calculations.
For 2026, teams will have their average concurrent viewership based on the highest value of the Group Stage, or either Stage 1 or Stage 2 (Stage 3 in case of Major), only the highest and only one value per team is included. Playoffs are not included.
For 2027, playoffs viewership will be taken into the equation, meaning that the combined average concurrent viewership for the entire tournament will be what determines the points distribution.
The matrix will be reviewed at the end of each calendar year and may be subject to changes ahead of the forthcoming calendar year.
Team Rank | Points Earned (IEM Kraków & IEM Cologne) | Points Earned (IEM Rio, IEM Atlanta & IEM Beijing) | Points Earned (ESL Pro League S23 & S24) |
|---|---|---|---|
1-4. | 8 | 12 | 14 |
5-8. | 6 | 9 | 10,5 |
9-12. | 4 | 6 | 7 |
The total pool is distributed proportionally based on each team’s share of the total contribution points among the top 16 teams. For example, if a team accounts for 10% of the total contribution points of the top 16, they receive 10% of the annual incentive fund.
To remain eligible for the year-end payout, teams must meet several core criteria and fulfill specific obligations.
It is important to distinguish the ACI from other forms of compensation relative to the Valve Ranking System (VRS):
The Annual Club Incentive concludes at the end of the competitive year and is paid out in Q1 of the following year. ESL provides regular standings updates throughout the season to allow teams to track their projected share of the pool.
