Season 2

Expanding the EPT

The ESL Pro Tour DOTA 2 will see a significant expansion from season 1. A total of three DreamLeague events will be part of the EPT Season 2, as well as two ESL One events. DreamLeague S21 and its results are included in EPT Season 2, as well as the upcoming ESL One Kuala Lumpur. All events from here on out, including Riyadh Masters at Esports World Cup, will feature both open and closed qualifiers for all 7 of our qualifier regions (NA, SA, WEU, EEU, MENA, CN, SEA)

EPT Points

Season 2 will see the introduction of the leaderboard. In order to earn their spot at Riyadh Masters at Esports World Cup, teams will need to earn EPT Points to place among the top 8 on the leaderboard. EPT Points will be awarded to every team playing an EPT event. The amount of EPT Points awarded per event will increase the closer an event is to Riyadh Masters at EWC (e.g. DLS21 rewards fewer points than DLS23). Starting with DreamLeague Season 22, EPT Points will also be used to determine direct invites to EPT events, as well as invites to closed qualifiers.

Qualifiers

Following the conclusion of ESL One Kuala Lumpur, the top four teams in the EPT leaderboard will be invited to the following EPT event. The remaining teams on the EPT leaderboard will receive an invite to the closed qualifier of their region, up until six slots have been filled. Any remaining slots may be filled in based on regional rankings.

Team Invites & Roster Locks

Each EPT event leading up to Riyadh Masters will feature up to four direct team invites based on World Cup Points. Should a team reject a direct invitation, a replacement team may be selected or, as is the case with ESL One Kuala Lumpur, the region with the highest regional elo will receive an additional qualifier slot. To encourage roster stability, teams will receive point deductions for competing in EPT events with a different roster than the one submitted ahead of our dedicated roster locks. Roster locks dates for each event can be found in the event list below.

FAQs

Every one of our 7 qualifier regions (NA, SA, WEU, EEU, MENA, CN, SEA) has open qualifiers leading into closed qualifiers for each EPT event. The top four teams of the Leaderboard will be invited to the following EPT event, and invites to the closed qualifiers for each region will be based on EPT Points as well.

Each region will always have at least one qualifier slot. Additional slot distribution is determined via the regional rankings. Regions can earn rating based on teams’ performances at both EPT and non-EPT events. A more detailed description is available from our EPT Rulebook here.

Each open qualifier, except for CN region, will be played on FACEIT. Sign-ups will be open days before the OQ begins. Links can be found on the website for the event, on our social media, or FACEIT directly.

Every team participating in an ESL One or DreamLeague event (not just in its qualifiers), will receive EPT Points based on their placement in the event.

In principle, EPT Points are tied to the competing, registered roster. Changes to the roster can impact EPT Points earned, from no deductions up to a complete EPT Point reset. For a more detailed breakdown, please refer to the official EPT Rulebook here.

The closer a tournament is to the end of the season, the more EPT Points it will distribute in total.

EPT Points do not decay throughout a season. Instead, the amount of EPT Points distributed per event will increase the closer we get to the end of a season.
EPT Points will however be reset after a season has ended.

The rulebook for EPT Season 2 can be found here.
