Annual Club incentive

Jak to działa

‎‎‎‎‎‎‎Hall of heroes Annual Club Incentive (ACI) is a central pillar of the ESL compensation structure in Counter-Strike. A first of its kind, it is designed to reward clubs for their long-term commitment and contribution to the Counter-Strike ecosystem through tournament attendance, viewership impact, and promotional support.

Overview

The ACI is a non-exclusive program available to any team that wishes to participate by signing the ESL CS2 Ecosystem Agreement. Unlike traditional prize money, which is awarded based on individual tournament results, the ACI provides a year-end payout based on a team's aggregate contribution throughout the year.

  • Annual Allocation: In 2026, a total of $3,150,000 will be distributed among the eligible teams.
  • Reward: The program rewards the top 16 teams with the largest contributions.
  • Funding Source: The allocation is funded by ESL’s commitment to Counter-Strike, sharing 10% of its revenue oraz 25% of its profits from Tier 1 Counter-Strike competitions.

How Is It Calculated

The contribution for each team is determined using a specific formula to ensure fair representation of both viewership reach and tournament activity.

The Formula

Club Contribution = V x N

  • V (Viewership Points): The sum of points earned for viewership across all ESL Pro Tour tournaments in a given year.
  • N (Tournament Attendance): The total number of ESL Pro Tour tournaments a team has participated in during that year.

Viewership Points Matrix

Tournaments will be weighted differently based on their duration (reflecting the time commitment required from teams) and the anticipated difficulty of travel for teams. This approach aims to encourage teams to participate in events that are more challenging to accommodate within their competitive schedules. Viewership data from Esports Charts will be used for these calculations.

For 2026, teams will have their average concurrent viewership based on the highest value of the Group Stage, or either Stage 1 or Stage 2 (Stage 3 in case of Major), only the highest and only one value per team is included. Playoffs are not included.

For 2027, playoffs viewership will be taken into the equation, meaning that the combined average concurrent viewership for the entire tournament will be what determines the points distribution.

The matrix will be reviewed at the end of each calendar year and may be subject to changes ahead of the forthcoming calendar year.

Pro-Rata Distribution

The total pool is distributed proportionally based on each team’s share of the total contribution points among the top 16 teams. For example, if a team accounts for 10% of the total contribution points of the top 16, they receive 10% of the annual incentive fund.

Participation & Eligibility

To remain eligible for the year-end payout, teams must meet several core criteria and fulfill specific obligations.

Core Requirements

  • Tournament Attendance: Teams must participate in the tournaments they are invited to, including main events and closed qualifiers.
  • Promotional Obligations: Teams must commit to a set of promotional activities for the tournaments they attend, aligned with standard ESL Pro Tour requirements.
  • Signed Agreement: Teams must sign and adhere to the ESL CS2 Ecosystem Agreement.

Opt-Out & Decline Policy

The program allows for limited flexibility regarding event attendance to manage player burnout and scheduling. These rules operate on a rolling 24-month period:
  • Teams may opt out of up to two events per calendar year.
  • In a standard rolling two-year cycle (e.g. 2026-2027 into 2027-2028), teams can opt out of a maximum of three events.
  • Major Exception: In a two-year period that includes an ESL-hosted Major (which replaces an existing ESL Pro Tour event), the total number of allowed declines is reduced to two.

Impact on VRS

It is important to distinguish the ACI from other forms of compensation relative to the Valve Ranking System (VRS):

  • Total Winnings: Representing per event Prize Money and Club Reward, these are considered competition performance-related and will impact a team’s VRS standing.
  • Annual Club Incentive: Because this is based on viewership and promotional contributions rather than direct match results, it does not impact VRS standings.

Payout Schedule

The Annual Club Incentive concludes at the end of the competitive year and is paid out in Q1 of the following year. ESL provides regular standings updates throughout the season to allow teams to track their projected share of the pool.
