Happy: “We’re here to make sure we score high on the international scene!”

Even though not being the French “Dream Team” of G2 Esports, Team EnVyUs presented themselves ready and able to compete at the top level, beating their new number one rival right on the first playday of this season. With the better season opening, EnVyUs are on the 4th place in the ranking right now. More than enough reason to sit down with Vincent “Happy” Schopenhauer to talk about his newly formed team and more!

ESL: According to you, has EnVyUs positioned itself for success after the French shuffle?
Vincent “Happy” Schopenhauer: I think so, yes. Sure, we’re not the French “Dream Team”, but our roles and characters are well known. We’ve already started training and it’s going smoothly. Everyone is hard at work and wants to bring this team to the top level. As leader of the team, I’m quite confident in our ability to do so after a productive training period.
ESL: What about the rivalry between EnVyUs and G2?
Happy: Will the next competitions feel like revenge? There’s always been a very intense national rivalry between the number one and two teams. I see no reason for that to change. That being said, we’re here to make sure we score high on the international scene and beat the competition in a worldwide capacity. G2 is only one of the possible matchups we’ll have to go through to get to the throne.
ESL: In theory, the "dream team" is G2’s, but ESL Pro League results show the contrary so far. Do you feel this adds pressure on your team to perform?
Happy: We’re pretty much the underdogs here, and that’s quite comfortable, as it allows us to train and play together in a great setting, whereas I don’t think the same is true for G2, who have so much hype and heat around their new team. I’ve never felt any particular pressure to perform, as the goal always stays the same: to qualify and win the most tournaments possible. As far as results go, we need to see how it’ll evolve long term, as anyone at the bottom of the ratings today could very well find themselves at the top in a few weeks. It’s much too early to judge or analyse a team that just underwent such a transition.
ESL: Will there be any change to the role of any of the players in the team?
Happy: I don’t know if it’s about role changes in particular but it seems to me like our teamplay and coherence and intuition is getting better. Which I’m happy to see as that’s what I’ve been trying to put in place. Sure, we’ll have some variations here and there, but overall, my role will stay the same, albeit with better application on my part and better read by my teammates.
