What is ESL Impact Anyway?

A big hello and welcome to Lucy's Peeks! (Get it, it's like peeking in CSGO, but also like peeking at content…  🙈 ) Anyway, this is a new blog where I'll be talking everything ESL Impact, keeping you up to date on all the teams, the results, and what to be looking out for as the season progresses!

So what is ESL Impact anyway? If you're brand new to the scene, allow me to get you up to speed. ESL Impact is part of the wider #GGforAll intiative which you can read all about here, but the TL;DR is that it is CS:GO's biggest women's circuit, which this year has featured two league seasons, a standalone event at DreamHack Valencia, as well as regular cash cups every month. The inaugural season earlier this year saw Nigma Galaxy crowned our first champions, and they followed it up again at ESL Impact Valencia, each time taking down the South Americans of FURIA in the Grand Final.

With Season 2 kicking off this week, for this first post I wanted to jump in for a quick peek (yeah, that's not going to get old) at the groups! Starting with the numbers… As per Season 1, we have three regional groups - EuropeNorth America and South America. Each region has 8 teams split into 2 groups of 4 - as shown in this lovely graphic:

Each team plays every team in their group twice in double round robin format over six weeks. The top two teams of each group will then advance to regional decider matches to play out for the 2 spots at the LAN finals. The result of this will be two teams progressing from each region to the Season Finals at DreamHack Winter in Jönköping, Sweden - alongside two wildcard qualifiers from the South Africa and Asia regions!

Okay, so that was a lot! But now you're up to speed on the what, stay tuned for my next post which will go into the who - the teams, the players, and the storylines to watch out for this season.

Also make sure you tune in this Thursday and Friday from 19:00 CEST for the first games of the groups at twitch.tv/ESL_CSGO_GG!
